What happened when I stopped eating sugar for a year?

Hello friends, In today’s topic I will share my body and mental transformation I achieved just by eleminating sugar from my diet.

I remember it was January 2019 when me and my husband were discussing what is the easiest and laziest thing we can do towards improving our lifestyle.Let me tell you that we both are not over weight person and has average body. We started off with all fancy ideas of joining gym, yoga, meditation, zumba and it sounded quite a hard work. Then we reminded ourselves, find easiest and laziest idea.

Lets cut down on our calorie intake then“, he said. it sounded cool to me and I agreed. It was his idea to completely quit sugar from our diet and replace it with jaggery. So we got two packets of organic jaggery and kept the sugar for making tea just for guests.

All my Indian friends will agree with me that tea is important part of our life, rather a good tea. So, initially we were hesitant that jaggery will ruin taste of tea. But after having first sip we exchanged a look of “not bad”. Idea was hit. Slowly and steadily we cut down the sugar completely from our diet.

We completed a month without sugar and here are the changes we could see now-

Mindset change– We don’t like sugar anymore. It was like moving on after a breakup. Mentally, we were completely withdrawn from using sugar and felt much more satisfied by using jaggery.

Once we quit sugar, we automatically stopped other junk food item. Only once a week we decided to have something sweet if we really crave. And its very important to not to kill your cravings otherwise you will end up eating a lot.

Body felt light– This was the happiest change we welcomed. we didn’t lose any considerate weight but our body started feeling so much light on feet. Sugar contains high calorie and it takes a lot to digest and process this calorie and this will lead to make you sleepy and inactive.

We continued following and improving our diet and completed one year without purchasing sugar. Even with very minimal exercise we were able to maintain healthy weight.

Lost inches– There was no major drop in my weight up until now but all my clothes started fitting me so well. Those tight quarter arm dresses feels loose and comfy. My face cut has definetely improved after losing extra fat from my cheeks. My ring doesn’t fit me too well and it feels amazing to shed extras.

Did I tell you I received so many compliments when I visited my in laws at the end of year. Almost everyone stopped by and asked for the secret. The secret which I am sharing with you all today.

CONCLUSION: If we start implementing one food discipline other will simply follows. It is a psychological shift. I hope this will help to someone in starting their fitness goal.

Change – the only constant

I came into this world in 1988 and grew in various states of north India. Talking about memory, I have very first memory of me playing outside with my sister nearly at the age of 4. Today I am 32, Let me look back and see how much has world got changed since then.

Here are few things I miss from old days

Letters – heard of this? oh, you did. But have to wrote any? ummm No? Well, I remember I used to write and receive letters back in 90’s. So, my dad was in defence and he used get posted in remote places of country. There were no landline phone.Letters were only way of communication.I know that long wait of receiving a letter from your loved ones. There used to be a calmness and patience in old times. Unlike today people become panic or restless if some one doesn’t answer a phone call or for that matter sees blue tick but no reply(you know what I mean!)

Inflation – when I was in school I used to get only 50 paisa as pocket money and my friend will get another 50 paisa making it 1 rupee so now we can enjoy hot samosa in school canteen. My elder sibling did their schooling with fees of Rs. 5 per month, and today one candy will costs you more than 5 bucks.

Television – Too many cooks spoils the dish. I completly agree.Back then we were all happy watching Rangoli at 7 —Ramayana at 10 — Shaktiman at 12DD News at 2 — Movie at 4 aren’t we? what a lovely united nation! everyone were on same page. And let’s not talk about what media and entertainment model is in place today. all mess!

Technology – I am working from last 11 years and I never visited Bank for anything not even fir account opening. And this concept of online banking is total alien to my father.Whereas my 1 year old niece knows how to skip ads in youtube like a pro!

Everything has become technical these days, including relationships. From match making to match breaking everything is technical.

Mindset – why the same heat in which we used to play hours and hours in childhood, doesn’t go down well these days? Why do we feel uncomfortable beyond 2 days of a relative’s visit? we cannot stand by long queue, little delay, criticism, advise, rejection and what not.

There are plenty of things which has changed around us and I am embracing it, but given a chance I would love to bring back the simplicity we had in our lives back then

Given a chance, what would you like to change? Share your thoughts.

My daily face routine

Hello Friends,

How many times it happened with you that you saw your face in mirror and felt absolute disgust by the way your skin is looking. I mean, come on let’s face this. We all (ok fine, most of us) have pigmentation, uneven skin tone ,acne, rashes, fine lines ,wrinkles, large pores other aging signs. And I am not different. BUT, no more. I have decided to listen to my face and give time and energy.

So here is what I started from last 5 days and can see huge difference.

Drinking water in morning.

Nothing new right! But how many times we actually do this. One thing which personally helps me in drinking more water is drinking water in glass and not directly from bottle (just my thing). Water helps in removing all the toxic accumulated overnight and flushes it out. Simple, right?

Potato ice cubes

This is what I do :

Peel potato and crush it into small pieces. Grind these potato cubes with 10 seeds of pomegranate and little water. put 4-5 drops of lemon juice in that mixture. Once this mixture is ready put this into ice tray of freezer and let it freeze.

Take one ice cube daily in morning and rub on all over your face. Cold sensation will increase the blood circulation on surface of face and brings glow.

I can really feel the difference in my skin. I feel it looks more even toned and patches are fading away. And you know what I see little shine on my cheek bones 🙂

Glyco 6 cream

This is a new addition in my routine and I have to say it is working!! So basically it is a cream with 6% glycolic acid in it which slowly peels(exfoliate) dead skin of the face and new skin appears. I am applying at night on full face specially near my mouth area as it has pigmentation and I wash it off early morning. I am loving the results.

If you have very sensitive skin check with your dermatologist first.

Apply sun screen

This took very long for me to adapt to this habit. But slowly I realized that pigmentation happens due to ultra violet rays and if we are using any exfoliating product(in my case glycolic 6) you cannot avoid applying sun screen otherwise it will backfire and result into dark patches. You can choose any available sun screen available in market. I use lotus spf 40.

Girls, we all deserve clean and better face. Try bringing discipline and you will definitely see the difference.

All the best!!!

So we returned from our honeymoon, everything was going great except the fact that our leaves are over and have to start going office again.

Anyways, after a week (somewhere in the month of June 2018) I was getting ready and I saw one big red mark on my arm and it was itching like hell. At that moment I just thought my arm got rubbed with some wall or something. So, I itched and forgot. Welcome to the world of allergy i.e, Urticaria

So I decided to visit Dermatologist, she gave me some allergy tablets and said it will be fine in one week. But little I knew that it is going to stay with me for one good year.

I started seeing these marks frequently and started bothering me. If I itch the surface of my skin use to swell and become even red.

You won’t believe I use to keep allergy tab with me like people keep their mobile phones with them. I lost hope that I will ever get rid of this allergy but I did recover from this allergy after one year. By the way how I got rid of it is itself a story(stay tuned for this story)

Lastly, I want to say that anyone suffering from urticaria have to maintain calm and be patient.
